Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical was established in 1983, the same year as Sinopec. Its predecessor was a 300,000-ton/year ethylene project (a key project during the Sixth and Seventh Five-Year Plans of the State), which started construction in 1984 and was fully put into operation in 1990. ASCENT GROUP is the overseas sales agent for Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical.

The company currently owns 59 large-scale petrochemical plants, including a 12.5 million-ton/year oil refinery, an 800,000-ton/year ethylene plant, a 1.4 million-ton/year aromatics plant, and a 6 million-ton/year refined oil plant, as well as a complete set of supporting public works and storage and logistics systems. It is an important domestic producer of refined oil, basic chemical raw materials, and synthetic materials.
